What to Expect During Your Marine Medical

A standard appointment typically takes about one hour and involves a thorough assessment of your fitness for duty:

• Comprehensive Physical Exam: Assessment of heart and lung function, blood pressure, heart rate, and reflexes.
• Vision & Hearing Tests: Testing for distance visual acuity, color vision, and hearing.
• Clinical Investigations: Standard urinalysis and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement.
• Specialized Testing: If required for your specific role or history, we can facilitate audiograms, ECGs, or lung function tests.

Applicant Requirements

To ensure a smooth examination process, please come prepared with the following:

• Candidate Document Number (CDN): You must have a valid CDN from Transport Canada before your examination can be conducted.
• Identification: Bring two pieces of government-issued photo ID.
• Medical Records: A list of current medications and any previous marine medical certificates or relevant specialist reports.
• Corrective Lenses: If you wear glasses or contacts, please bring them as we will test your vision both with and without them.

Certification Results

• Provisional Certificate: If determined "Fit" or "Fit with Limitations," you will receive a provisional certificate immediately after the exam, valid for up to 6 months.
• Permanent Certificate: Your final Marine Medical Certificate will be issued and mailed by Transport Canada after they review the examination report.
